SANTA BARBARA CREATIVE LAB
Our website
Overview / My Role
Santa Barbara Creative Lab (SBCL) is a student organization at UC Santa Barbara dedicated to creative problem-solving through design. As part of the web dev team, I help build and maintain websites for SBCL’s in-house projects — from one-off event pages to long-term site redesigns. Our goal is not only to support our team’s design work through functional, responsive websites but also to make design more visible and accessible on campus.
I design and develop pages for SBCL-led initiatives like the Spring Designathon, Winter Design Challenge, and project team showcases.
I collaborate closely with designers to bring mockups into production, write clean and responsive front-end code, and help shape how SBCL communicates its work through the web. Beyond individual pages, I also contribute to ongoing maintenance of our main site, implementing updates and supporting broader redesign efforts.
Works
One of the key projects I worked on was the Spring Designathon landing page: a custom-built site that highlighted the event brief, speaker lineup, workshop hosts, and judging criteria. I used HTML and CSS to bring the layout to life, ensuring it worked across screen sizes and matched the visual identity developed by our design team. I’ve also worked on keeping our main site up to date with event announcements, workshop info, and student projects.
Tools
I typically use HTML, CSS, and React, depending on the project. Our team uses Git and GitHub for version control, Figma for design collaboration, and Netlify for deployment and live previews.
The workflow has taught me a lot about balancing creativity and technical precision — especially
when building something from a blank page.
